Rebooting The Fantastic Four

Published by Courtney Russell / July 9,2015.

Hello MyWatchLinks Fans, It's that time of the year again when Holywood decides to dust off one of it's previous comic books franchises and give it the infamous Reboot. Fantastic Four is no exception as the comic book adaptation officially hit the live screen back in 1994 when it was released by Constantin Films. This earlier version of the Fantastic Four was adapted  back in 1994 by producer Roger Corman. The film was not released to theaters or home video, it was however made available through bootleg video distribution. The film was made because Constantin Film owned the film rights and would have lost them if it did not begin production by a certain deadline, a tactic known as creating an ashcan copy.

In 2005, the second film adaptation, Fantastic Four directed by Tim Story was released by 20th Century Fox. Despite mixed reviews from critics, it earned it's fair share at the box office. The 2005 version later spawned a sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, directed by Story and written by Don Payne, was released in 2007. Both films feature Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom / Dr. Doom. Inevitably the franchised was canceled and finally 8 years later it was Rebooted.

The reboot, also titled Fantastic Four, directed by Josh Trank is scheduled to be released on August 7, 2015. The film stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm and Toby Kebbell as Doctor Doom and is based on the Ultimate Version of The Fantastic Four. A sequel and possible crossover with the X-Men is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017.

This current versions synopsis:

When four people teleport to an alternate universe, which alters their physical form and grants them new abilities, they must learn to harness their abilities and work together as a team to save the Earth from a familiar enemy.

Hopefully this time 20th Century Fox gets it right and give us an adaptation that they won't end up rebooting in just a few years and with all the main actors being young we can maybe see them stretch it out like they did with their first X-men franchise and finally build a bankable cinematic universe for The Fantastic Four.
